Description
Truesdell Sparhawk Brown (1906-1992) was a asssistant professor (1948-51), associate professor (1951-56), professor (1956-73) and professor emeritus of ancient history at UCLA and chairman of history department (1959-62). The collection consists of correspondence, manuscripts, reviews, photocopies, printed books, offprints, pamphlets, and cuttings.

Truesdell Sparhawk Brown was born on March 21, 1906 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; attended Haverford College, 1922-23; AB (1928), MA (1929), Harvard University; graduate study at University of Innsbruck, 1932-33; Ph.D, Columbia University, 1947; instructor in ancient history (1929-37), University of Colorado; instructor, then assistant professor (1940-47), University of Texas; lecturer (1947-48), asssistant professor (1948-51), associate professor (1951-56), professor (1956-73) and professor emeritus of ancient history, UCLA; chairman of history department, 1959-62; published works include Onesicritus: a study in Hellenistic Historiography (1949), Timaeus of Tauromenium (1958), and The Greek Historians (1973); Brown retired in 1973; he died on January 13, 1992 in Houston, Texas.
