This series is comprised of notebooks, journals, date books, as well as individual sheets of paper used by Ginsberg to jot down his day-to-day notes and observations.

The journals are arranged in chronological order by the year in which Ginsberg started the first entry. Some gaps in the numbering sequence exist due to loss or theft of journals prior to the sale of this collection to Stanford University. Also, certain journals which Ginsberg used to record religious teachings had been attributed to this series prior to the collection being transferred to Stanford; however, inspection of the actual documents show that Ginsberg kept these journals with his religious materials. Collection is open for research; materials must be requested at least 36 hours in advance of intended use.
Accessions received in 1998, 1999, 2002, 2004, and 2018 totaling some 161.5 linear feet have not yet been processed. Digital files are closed until processed.
