Series IV: Sound Recordings

Scope and Content

The approximately 700 sound recordings are divides in 9 subseries: CBS Radio Recordings, (organized by program and date); Film Music; Television and Radio Music; Concert Music; TransWorld Recorded Library; Commercial Recordings Projects; Lectures and Interviews; Miscellaneous Recordings with Herrmann conducting and Miscellaneous and Unidentified recordings. The majority of the sound recordings are acetates of Herrmann conducting the CBS symphony from the late 1930s through the 1940s, including him conducting his own works. Recordings of his film music include commercial recording projects he did, but generally not the original recordings of cues from the films. There are also recordings of his concert music, lectures and other recordings that were in his possession at the time of his death.
