Background
- Scope and content:
-
The papers, the bulk of which date from the 1940s, include correspondence with editors, fellow writers and scholars, generally regarding G贸mez-Correa's work, though there are letters from Jorge C谩ceres describing the surrealist scene in Paris in 1948 and one from C茅sar Moro describing the South American literary scene in 1942. There are handwritten and typewritten manuscripts of G贸mez-Correa's books of essays and poetry. Spanning his entire career, these writings offer full elaboration of his notion of surrealism as permanent revolution. The collection also includes a few personal photographs; small books, excerpts from books, photocopied articles about surrealism and/or G贸mez-Correa, and newspaper obituaries. Among the artwork are a photograph by Man Ray, two photomontages and one engraving by Braulio Arenas, a collage by Jorge C谩ceres, an engraving by Hans Arp and a collaborative drawing by four fellow surrealists. Two-hundred and forty books, 62 serials, and 8 catalogs were transferred to the library.
Material is generally in either Spanish or French; a small amount is in English.
