Scope and content:

Collection consists of correspondence, transcripts and copies of documents and manuscripts, clippings,and photographs regarding the career, research, and writings of Westergaard. Research materials from Danish and Swedish archives concerning 16th-19th century Danish, Scandinavian, Russian and Danish West Indian history.

Biographical / historical:

Waldemar Christian Westergaard was born February 4, 1882 in Buffalo, North Dakota; attended University of North Dakota, University of California at Berkeley, Cornell, Stockholm University; specialized in Scandinavian and European history; taught at Pomona College and UCLA (1925-1949); died in 1963.

The collection contains microfilm copies and photostats from other archival and manuscript collections in various European repositories, many of which are not identified.
