Description
This collection documents the activities of the Department of Art's Art Council, Galleries, faculty, students, and alumni from 1964-1989.  These records are organized in chronological order.  This material was compiled by the Art Department, and descriptions and headings were left as originally devised.  These are in boxes 1 through 3.  All loose archival material, including exhibits catalogs, is located in box 4 of the collection.
Background
The School of Art, Design, and Art History is committed to excellence in the visual arts and design, intellectual development, interdisciplinary research, and creative growth. The faculty, professionally active artists, designers, scholars, critics and educators, seek to develop a high degree of professional competence in future artists, art historians, art educators and designers within the rich environment of a large, culturally diverse urban university.

The copyright interests in some of these materials have been transferred to or belong to San Diego State University. The nature of historical archival and manuscript collections means that copyright status may be difficult or even impossible to determine. Copyright resides with the creators of materials contained in the collection or their heirs. Requests for permission to publish must be submitted to the Head of Special Collections, San Diego State University, Library and Information Access. When granted, permission is given on behalf of Special Collections as the owner of the physical item and is not intended to include or imply permission of the copyright holder(s), which must also be obtained in order to publish.  Materials from our collections are made available for use in research, teaching, and private study.
