Biography
A sociologist and educator, Fay Goleman received an M.S.S. from Smith
College. She then taught Social Work and Family Relations at the College of the
Pacific, Stockton, Calif. (1937-1976), where she also participated in the
establishment of a Department of Clinical Services in the School of Education
(1951). Goleman was a member of the Governor's Advisory Committee on Children
and Youth (1951-1954), the Board of Corrections Committee to Study the Los
Guilicos School for Girls riots (1953), the Governor's Advisory Committee on
Mental Health (1959-1966) and the Stockton Community Council (1954-1974). She
was also Director of the Western Interstate Commission for Higher Education
Mental Health Summer Work Study Program (1960-1970) and member of the Northern
California Family Relations Council (1964-1965).
Scope and Content
Goleman's Papers consist chiefly of correspondence, reports, minutes,
proposals and printed materials pertaining to the activities of the various
advisory committees of which she was a member, including: the Governor's
Advisory Committee on Children and Youth (1951-1954); the Governor's Advisory
Committee on Mental Health (1959-1966); the Board of Corrections Committee to
Study the Los Guilicos School (1953); and, the Stockton Community Council
(1954-1974). The Papers also contain a small body of materials pertaining to
Goleman's activities as an educator at the College of the Pacific
(1937-1976).
