Description
The documents, primarily from the T.W. Norris and the Cowan Collections, include 1792 census record for Monterey, San Jose and some of the missions; copy of a report, 1797, re Indians of the Colorado River area; an order, 1801, re boundaries between the pueblo of San Jose and Santa Clara Mission; a certificate of service issued to a cadet, 1804; and census data and reports on missions, 1812 and 1815.
Background
Argüello served as comandante at the presidios at San Francisco, Monterey and Santa Barbara, and as acting governor of California, 1814-1815.
