Description
These records from the School of Education at Stanford University consist of kindergarten records including drawings and short stories by the children, 1892-93; class reading under Clara Vostrovsky; stories, correspondence and notes, 1893-1894 ; and a scrapbook of child studies and learning definitions from schools across the United States, 1891. The third volume contains material by Earl Barnes and Mary Sheldon Barnes.
Background
In October 1892 the Dept. of Education at Stanford University established a kindergarten on campus, to serve in part as a laboratory for advanced students of the education department; it was under the direction of Prof. Earl Barnes and instructor Margaret Schallenberger. Many children of the Stanford faculty attended.
