Background

Scope and content:

This collection consists of six scrapbooks assembled by Harry F. Maidenberg containing clippings, photographs, and ephemera documenting the history of California, with an emphasis on Southern California. Also included in the scrapbooks are clippings pertaining to political events of the period in which they were assembled. Maidenberg also published brochures of historical anecdotes to distribute among his friends, some of which are included in this collection.

Biographical / historical:

Harry F. Maidenberg was born in Russia in 1884 and moved to Los Angeles as a young child. Maidenberg was an insurance businessman who began making scrapbooks documenting the history of California in the 1950s.
