    Biographical Note

    General Czeslaw Kiszczak was the last communist Prime Minister of Poland. He played an important role in the 1981 implementation of martial law in Poland. He was also known for taking part in suppressing the Solidarity movement in Poland. Kiszczak was Poland's last communist leader before the country's transition to democracy. He died in Warsaw on 5 November 2015.

    Scope and Content of Collection

    The bulk of the materials in this collection is from the 1980s and later and includes: photographs and video recordings pertaining to the Solidarity opposition and in particular meetings in Zawrat and Magdalenak, selected correspondence, and domestic and foreign newspapers and clippings with articles about Kiszczak. Materials also document Kiszczak's efforts to form a government after the semi-free elections of 1989. Collection includes a photocopy of the "Bolek" files and the original of the letter of the "corporal" to the "general" written by Walesa to Jaruzelski from internment in Arlamow in November 1982.
