Abstract: The Philip Lamantia Papers consist of correspondence, general files and personal papers. Correspondence is both incoming
and outgoing, and correspondents include contemporary writers, publishers and publishing companies, members of the Surrealist
Movement and Lamantia's mother and friends. General files make up the bulk of the collection and consist of writings by Lamantia
in the forms of proofs, manuscripts, typescripts, drafts of poems and prose, and notebooks. General files also contain works
by contemporary writers, publicity and professional materials, materials from courses taught at San Francisco Art Institute,
and research materials. Personal papers include documents belonging and pertaining to Philip's parents, Nunzio and Mary Lamantia,
papers and scrapbooks from Philip's childhood, marriage and divorce records, and other papers. Materials removed from individual
books from the Philip Lamantia Library are included throughout the collection.
