Description
The records comprise the subject files of the Office of Physical Planning, University of California, Irvine, and document
a variety of issues relating to land development, environmental management, transportation planning, and city and campus planning
in California, Orange County, the City of Irvine, and the University of California, Irvine campus. Records include correspondence,
proposals, plans, reports, meeting minutes, agreements, environmental impact statements, background information files, and
other materials.
Background
The University of California, Irvine, Office of Physical Planning and Construction began in 1965. In 1980, the name was shortened
to Office of Physical Planning, reporting to the Director of the Office of Budget and Planning, under the Executive Vice Chancellor.
Between 1987 and 1990, the office decentralized into discrete units, eventually reporting to separate points in the campus
administration. The Office of Campus and Environmental Planning reports to the Vice Chancellor, Administrative and Business
Services. The Office of Capital Planning reports to the Associate Vice Chancellor, Resource Management and Analysis. The
remaining core of what was the Office of Physical Planning became Design and Construction Services and also reports to the
Vice Chancellor, Administrative and Business Services.
