Darkness at Midday is a movie about the total eclipse of the Sun at Santa Catalina Island on September 10, 1923. Dr. Brackett applied for Copyright for the text of the completed drama in 1923. In August 1923 the movie was registered in the United States Copyright office under Remittance no. 84996.

Dr. Frank Brackett wrote to U.S. government officials about the expenditures of the Southern California Local Exemption Board in connection with the Selective Service Act of 1917. United States congress passed the second act to draft civilians into the United States military; the first draft occurred during the American Civil War.

Scope and Content Note

These folders contain correspondence from German General Moritz Freiherr von Bissing, between Dr. Brackett, President Herbert Hoover and Commission for Belgian Relief volunteers, pamphlets and newspaper clippings in German and Belgian, and a photograph.

Biography/Organization History

The Commission for Relief in Belgium began at the end of World War I. Brackett and other volunteers received a working visa in order to help Belgians rebuild its infrastructure after the war.
