    Scope and Content of Collection

    The Alfred Connor Bowman papers contains reports, writings, research materials, correspondence, photographs, and audiovisual materials relating to Allied Military Government (AMG) occupation of the Venezia Giulia region of Italy, and, to a lesser extent, the initial United States operations in the Korean War.
    The bulk of the collection is related to Bowman's career as a Senior Civil Affairs Officer and Military Governor for the AMG, and is comprised of declassified reports, criminal case files, correspondence, and press summaries relating to the socio-political climate of post-war Italy and amplified conflict between Italians and Yugoslavs. The collection also contains photographs and audiovisual materials detailing Bowman's experiences in Italy. Also included are reports and news-clippings in regards to United States military intervention in Korea, located in the Korean War file. The Subject files and Speeches and Writings file detail Bowman's post-war career with the United States military and materials that were used to publish his memoir, Zones of Strain: A Memoir of the Early Cold War.
    The majority of the files in the collection retain their original folder titles.
