Scope and Contents
This is a small collection of correspondence of Arthur Cable primarily to his mother and father, describing his military and
work experiences and requesting help in regards to his failing marriage and subsequent divorce. The letters also touch on
the mental stability of Cable's brother, John.

Biographical Note
Arthur Lovejoy Cable was the son of Herbert Arthur Cable, Deputy State Labor Commissioner of California, and Mrs. Herbert
Arthur Cable, President of State Federation of Women's Clubs. His brother was John Rufus Cable. Cable was born in South Dakota,
and grew up in Los Angeles. He worked for the Southern Pacific Railroad (1914-1915), the Imperial Valley Development Company,
and as an accountant for a lumber firm in the Pacific Northwest. Cable enlisted in the army in 1917, and was honorably discharged
in 1919. He attended boot camp at Camp Lewis, American Lake (Tacoma) Washington, was a Private, A Company 316 Engineer Regiment;
a Corporal, Section 4, General Headquarters, France, A.E.F.; and Sergeant, section 4, General Headquarters, France, A.O.
