Description
Papers include a scrapbook of newspaper articles about the Stanford football team ca. 1892-1895, with a few about Code's earlier football experience in San Francisco; photographs of Code, 1896 and 1910, of the 1895 Stanford football team, and of the class of 1895 wearing their Plug Uglies (the hat of the junior class); a letter to Code from H. S. Hicks, 1931; and Code's obituary, ca. 1960. Collection also includes two pamphlets by A. R. E. Wyant, "Dividends of the Depression - An Optimistic Philosophy of Life" and "Christy Mathewson - Great Athlete, Soldier and Christian Gentleman" and his letter to the sports editor of the Palo Alto Daily News, 1957.
Background
Thomas K. Code earned his A.B. in geology at Stanford University in May 1896; he was quarterback of the first football team (1892) and played on the 1893 and 1895 teams as well.
