Series Scope and Content Summary
This collection provides a historical representation of publications on library science theory and practice from 1920 to 1959.
It contains bibliographies, book and library supply catalogs, book lists, bulletins, circulars, conference papers and proceedings,
directories, dissertation abstracts, encyclopedia reprints, event programs, guides, handbooks, indexes, lesson books, leaflets,
library dedication literature, manuals, monographs, pamphlets, periodicals, reader's advisory publications, reading lists,
statistical and study reports, and workshop booklets. Many materials were published to help American librarians organize
and develop collections, expand and improve reference service and library circulation, and develop skills in indexing and
cataloging. Some items discuss the management of special services such as children's collections and company, hospital, and
Army libraries. Additional materials include academic library usage manuals, statistical reports on libraries by region,
published standards of service, materials on records preservation, manuals concerning book binding and repair, and literature
for the public on the value of libraries.
