Biography
There is little biographical information available about Mel Swope. Swope served as vice president of production at Wilshire
Court Productions and was named senior vice president of Production of MGM/UA Worldwide Television, a unit of Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer
Inc. Throughout his career Swope produced and directed prime time programs for all major American television networks. Among
his numerous credits are
Fame,
Miami Vice, and
Police Story. He received Emmy Award nominations for his work on
Fame,
Police Story and was the recipient of two Golden Globe awards.
Scope and Content
The collection consists of material related to the career television producer and director Mel Swope. Included among the files
is one or more of the following documents: scripts, notes, credits, cast and crew lists, shooting schedules, budgets, and
memos. The bulk of the collection contains material for the Emmy-nominated television series
Fame and
Police Story. Other projects include
The Partridge Family and
Pleasure Cove, among others. The files were originally housed in binders, which have been removed for preservation purposes.
