Acquisition Information
These architectural drawings were transferred to the archives by the Clerk of the Board of Supervisors in 2006.
Processing Information
This collection was processed by Kevin Fleming working under NHPRC grant RA-10047, the Santa Clara County Archives Project.
A fuller account of the grant project is available at the Archives website.
The architectural drawings arrived unorganized and rolled. Thus, basic conservation measures were taken by flatting the drawings.
Then they were cataloged into a database and arranged by record number.
Administrative History
In 1951, the county charter created a separate Clerk of the Board. The Office of the Clerk of the Board is the state-mandated
custodian of records for the Board of Supervisors, and maintains the current and historical records of all Board of Supervisors
actions.
Scope and Content of Collection
This County Architectural Drawings Collection consists of approximately 1,700 architectural drawings, plans and maps. These
architectural drawings illustrate the county's growth and development between 1920 and 1997. They include drawings of the
County Hospital, Municipal and Superior Courts, County Fairgrounds, road construction and improvements, as well as drawings
related to the Department of Parks and Recreation, Transportation Agency, Flood Control and Water Conservation District, and
County Sanitation District.
The collection was cataloged into a database, in which each record contains the following information: record number, contract
number, date of project, title of drawing, street location, city, and name of architect or engineer. The database is searchable
by any of the aforementioned categories.
Arrangement
The collection is arranged by record number.
