Scope and Contents
The
Alumni Association Records are comprised of two series:
General Office Files (1931-2001) and
Pre-1950s Student Reminiscences (1993-1995). The collection is an artificial one, pulled together by Library staff, not the Alumni Association.
General Office Files contains materials regarding awards, membership directories, correspondence, meeting minutes, and publications including
newsletters.
Pre-1950s Student Reminiscences is comprised of materials sent to the Alumni Association by members who graduated before 1950 for special editions of the
"SDSU Report" devoted to this generation. The contributions were originally housed in binders, organized by the decade of
graduation. All alumni represented in the folders are listed below.

The copyright interests in some of these materials have been transferred to or belong to San Diego State University. The nature
of historical archival and manuscript collections means that copyright status may be difficult or even impossible to determine.

Historical Note
San Diego State Normal School graduates met in May of 1906 to establish a group that eventually grew into the San Diego State
University Alumni Association. The organization's activities and membership fluctuated over the next forty years, but after
the success of the Aztec News Letter for alumni throughout World War II, the Alumni Association was reestablished in late
1945. In the decades since, the Alumni Association has existed as a venerable resource and platform for connecting San Diego
State University graduates, fundraising for university development, and recognizing university-wide personalities with awards.
