Sutter County Library's photograph collection includes images of local historical interest including early farming; small town and country life in California's northern Central Valley; early recreational hunting and fishing; family life in a migrant camp; levees and floods; historical buildings, main streets, schools, railroads; cultural and ethnic diversity and tradition.

Acquisition information:
Collection was created by Sutter County Library staff in 1998-99 as part of the California State Library, Shades of California grant project, Cycle 2, with additional gifts to the library.
Processing information:

Photographs were reproduced from personal photo albums and photographs submitted by county residents participating in the Shades of California 'photo days' and 1998-99 grant project supported by the U.S. Institute of Museum and Library Services under the provisions of the Library Services and Technology Act, administered in California by the State Librarian. Additional local historical photographs were gifts to the library.
