Following the death of Iris Silverman, Jan Baum reopened the Gallery under her own name in 1981, continuing the gallery's focus on contemporary and African art, with a particular emphasis on California artists. Baum retired and closed the gallery in 2007.

    Processing Information note

In 2008 Emmabeth Nanol re-housed the archive and created a box list. In 2009 she further processed and arranged some of the materials and expanded the box list into a preliminary finding aid under the supervision of Andra Darlington. The arrangement of the archive is based on the original order of the collection as it was received from the Jan Baum Gallery, though it required some refinement. Collection-level notes are based on curatorial acquisition documentation.

    Separated Materials note

155 books and 23 serials were transferred to the Library's core collection. Most of the transferred books are exhibition catalogs. Once these materials have been processed, they can be found in the library catalog with a Provenance search on "Jan Baum Gallery." An itemized list of transferred publications may be requested from the repository.
