Scope and Contents
The
Sylvia A. Cramer Collection (1970-2009) documents Cramer's support of the Chicano movement while at SDSU. Of particular interest are notes from a study
group of faculty and students who met to discuss Chicano and Chicana issues at the university. Also included are posters supporting
United Farm Worker causes; documentation of an initiative against Proposition 13, a referendum that limited property taxation;
and the Bakke decision, in which the US Supreme Court determined that fixed quotas for minority student enrollment was unconstitutional
in 1978. The majority of the material dates from 1970 to 1976 and focuses on activities supporting the Chicano Movement.
Filed alphabetically, the collection consists of flyers, newspapers, one DVD, posters, notes, and articles.

Biographical Note
Sylvia A. Cramer attended SDSU in 1972. While a student, she actively supported the Chicano Studies Department as well as
chicano movement initiatives, including study groups where faculty and students met to discuss issues of Chicanas and Chicanos
at the university. Cramer supported Cesar Lopez (whom she later married) during his presidency of the Associated Student body
at SDSU. She also participated in the United Farm Workers' strawberry strike during the early 1980s.
