Description
Martin Janis first opened his gallery on Ventura Blvd. before moving it to 710 North La Cienega Blvd. The collection consists of clippings from prominent magazines and newspapers, catalogs, small amounts of correspondence, gallery ephemera, and invitations and announcements for art shows.
Background
Martin Janis first opened his gallery on Ventura Blvd. before moving it to 710 North La Cienega Blvd. at the time that street was the most fashionable address for art dealers in Los Angeles; he is the brother of New York art dealer Sidney Janis.The Martin Janis Gallery was operated by the brother of new York art dealer Sidney Janis. It was evidently first located on Ventura Boulevard, then moved to 710 North La Cienega Boulevard, at the time that street was the most fashionable address for art dealers in Los Angeles.
