Abstract:
The collection comprises materials from University of California, Irvine commencement ceremonies, including printed copies and sound recordings of commencement addresses, video recordings and photographs of ceremonies, handbooks, graduation gifts, informational brochures, and flags. The handbooks include scripts of welcome speeches and introductions, diagrams of the seating arrangements on stage, and instructions for persons officiating and speaking at the ceremonies.

Background

Scope and content:

The collection comprises materials from commencement ceremonies of the University of California, Irvine (UCI), including printed copies and sound recordings of commencement addresses, informational brochures for graduates, graduation gifts, event programs, and handbooks provided to individuals who presided over or presented at commencement ceremonies held at the Bren Events Center. It also contains video recordings of ceremonies, cloth flags used to identify participating groups, and a cloth banner used to adorn the stage during the ceremonies. The handbooks include scripts of welcome speeches and introductions, diagrams of the seating arrangements on stage, and instructions for persons officiating and speaking at the ceremonies. The collection contains scripts and transcripts of some commencement speeches.

A "script" is a document containing the text of what a speaker intended to say while delivering his or her speech. A "transcript" is a document in which the speech has been transcribed verbatim after it has been delivered to the audience.

The collection also contains digital photographs of commencement ceremonies.
