The collection consists of printed
scores (including scores with performance annotations, analysis, and/or composers'
inscriptions), lecture notes, sound recordings, correspondence, and other papers relating to
the life and work of the musicologist and pianist.
Background
Leonard Stein (1916-2004) was teaching and personal assistant to Arnold Schoenberg from
1939 until Schoenberg's death in 1951. He was also a pianist specializing in contemporary
music and Director of the Arnold Schoenberg Institute from 1975 until 1991.
