    Biographical/Historical Sketch

    Putnam Aldrich, noted harpsichordist, joined the Stanford University faculty in 1950. A graduate of Yale, he earned his advanced degrees in music at Harvard. He was the founder of the Ph.D. program in music at Stanford and taught counterpoint, the history of baroque music, and harpsichord. After his retirement in 1969 he moved to France, where he died in 1975.
