May d’Marie was one of the Sacramento Areas primary activists for peace. May was born March 26, 1924 in the state of Washington. She lived with her husband in Europe in the years directly after World War II, witnessing first hand the destruction that devastated her new homes in Germany and France. These years were influential for her later international travels and lifetime of peace activism. May d’Marie earned degrees from Western Washington College and University of Denver, and served as a librarian in the Sacramento community for many years. She became a peace activist, and was a founding member among the Auburn Chapter of Women’s International League for Peace and Freedom. Visiting 99 countries in her lifetime, May d’Marie collected information on international community building and frequently presented her information to the Sacramento community through formal lectures and editorials in local newspapers.
