Abstract: The Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual and Transgender Periodicals Collection (1968-2003) contains a variety of periodicals that document
the Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual and Transgender (GLBT) movement. The place of origin for a majority of these periodicals is California,
with the remainder originating from other states in the Western U.S.

Scope and Content of Collection
The periodicals contained in this collection illustrate the events that shaped, defined and changed the modern Gay, Lesbian,
Bisexual and Transgender (GLBT) movement. The magazines, newsletters and newspapers span from 1968 through 2003. The events
chronicled include the Stonewall rebellion and its political legacy, GLBT Marches on Washington in 1979, 1987 and 1993, the
identification and spread of HIV and AIDS, the assassination of San Francisco Supervisor Harvey Milk in 1978 and the second
wave of Lesbian Feminism. The place of origin for the majority of the collection is California. Other western states such
as Alaska, Arizona, Colorado, Hawaii, Nevada, New Mexico, Oregon, Utah and Washington are also represented. Titles are both
national and local in content. The most extensive holdings are of the
Advocate,
Bay Area Reporter,
Frontiers,
Lavender Network,
Our Paper Your Paper,
San Francisco Sentinel,
Update and
The Voice.

This collection is organized in a single series arranged alphabetically by periodical title. Each title is then arranged chronologically.
