    Biography / Administrative History

    Collector Helen Giorgi purchased these photographs with intention of producing a book on Stockton (Calif.) history. Most images come from an album that belonged to William P. Miller, early Stockton wagon maker. Others come from albums formerly belonging to Mrs. J. S. McCauley of Angels Camp (Calif.) and to the Cuthbertson family and Janice Huntoon of Stockton. Photographs include portraits of local politicians, manufacturers, teachers, hotel keepers and others taken by best known 19th century local photographers, including B. P. Batchelder, John Pitcher Spooner and I. W. Tabor.

    Scope and Content of Collection

    Collection consists of cartes de visite and cabinet card portraits of early Stockton California residents with biographical notes by Helen Giorgi. Includes a family tree of Helen Giorgi.
