Biography / Administrative History
William Alvord (b.January 3, 1833 - d.December 21, 1904) was born in Albany, NY. He became the 14th Mayor of San Francisco,
serving from December 4, 1871 to November 30, 1873. He died in San Francisco, California of heart failure due to bronchial
illness.

Scope and Content of Collection
One handwritten legal deed, dated July 20, 1871 and 3 pages in length, from William Alvord and addressed to Huntington, Stanford
and Hopkins. Deed documents the sale of the railroad formerly known as the Placerville and Sacramento Valley Railroad Company
by Alvord to Huntington, Stanford and Hopkins. El Dorado County Recorder's document is attached at the end of deed confirming
that it was filed in the record as of September 24, 1875.
