Abstract:
The Defenders was
televised 1961 to 1965. The series featured E.G. Marshall and Robert Reed as a father-son
team of defense attorneys. The program established a model for social-issue type television
series that were created in the early sixties. The collection consists of annotated scripts
from January 1962 to March 1965.

Biographical / Historical
The Defenders television series ran from September
1961-September 1965. Filmed in New York, the stories centered on a father-and-son team of
defense attorneys, and explored issues such as euthanasia, abortion, blacklisting, and civil
disobedience. Regular cast members included, E.G. Marshall, Robert Reed, Polly Rowles, Helen
Donaldson, and Joan Hackett. The series was created by Reginald Rose, who wrote several of
the scripts, and was produced by Herbert Brodkin. Other regular writers included Ernest
Kinoy and Robert Crean.
Scope and Contents
Collection consists of annotated scripts for the television series
The
Defenders
. Includes the scripts for production numbers 29-132 (January 1962-March
1965). Script annotations may have been made by writer, Robert Markell.
