Scope and Content Note

Contains photos, correspondence, memorabilia, and ephemera of Hickok while she lived in Los Angeles and worked as a teacher and riveter; thereafter, featured is her WWII service as a member in the U.S. Navy W.A.V.E.S. (Women Accepted for Volunteer Emergency Services). Also contains contemporary materials from a museum exhibit commemorating the W.A.V.E.S.

Contains an array of sketch writings, journal entries, query letters, advertisements, photos, reviews, and correspondence related to Hickok's self-published novel, as well as the novel itself, Against the Current: Coming Out in the 40s. Additionally, the series includes a published short story, a published photo memoir, unpublished short stories and poetry, travel and personal journals, dream books, oral histories, photos and slides of Hickok's original artwork, and three novels that profoundly affected Hickok and her writing pursuits.

Scope and Content Note

Contains a large quantity of photos and slides mostly taken by Cecil Davis, a professional photographer and Hickok's partner of forty-one years. Features include a scrapbook of Davis and Hickok vacationing in Europe, as well as clippings, travel journals and photos, an unpublished short photo narrative Hickok wrote and Davis photographed, photos of home life, as well as Davis's obituary. Additional features include Hollywood celebrities that Davis shot for an annual golf tournament.
