    Abstract: Christina Georgina Jane Reeve was the second wife of Henry Reeve (1813-95). Henry Reeve's position as editor of the Edinburgh review allowed the Reeves to move in leading social, literary, and political circles of London and Paris of their time. The collection consists of bound typescript copies of Christina Reeve's correspondence and journals documenting the Reeves' literary, social, and political circles, often mentioning literary figures such as Charles Dickens, William M. Thackeray, Harriet Marineau, Harriet Beecher Stowe, Mrs. Gaskell, George Eliot, Matthew Arnold, and Alfred Lord Tennyson.

    Biography

    Christina Georgina Jane Reeve, eldest daughter of George Tilly Gollop of Strode House, Dorset, was the second wife of Henry Reeve (1813-95). Henry Reeve's position as editor of the Edinburgh review allowed the Reeves to move in leading social, literary, and political circles of London and Paris of their time.

    Scope and Content

    Collection consists of bound typescript copies of correspondence and journals of Christine Georgina Jane Reeve, wife of Henry Reeve. The letters (1851-88) are in three volumes, and her journals (1851-78) are bound in four. The journals document the Reeves' literary, social, and political circles, often mentioning literary figures such as Charles Dickens, William M. Thackeray, Harriet Marineau, Harriet Beecher Stowe, Mrs. Gaskell, George Eliot, Matthew Arnold, and Alfred Lord Tennyson. The also include social gossip and lengthy eye-witness accounts of events such as the funeral of the Duke of Wellington.
