Biography / Administrative History
Jerry Voorhis, 1901-1984, was founder of the Voorhis School for Boys in San
Dimas, Calif.; U.S. congressman from California's 12th district, 1936-1946,
until his defeat by Richard Nixon; member of the Dies Committee on Un-American
Activities; president and later executive director of the Co-operative League of
the U.S.A.
Scope and Contents of the Collection
Books and papers related to his political campaigns and years in Congress, including
his voting record. Research material for his books, files related to his political,
economic, and social interests, material about the Voorhis School for Boys, and
Voorhis family history. Includes information on co-operatives and personal and
business correspondence with prominent figures. Also includes supporting books and
periodicals, phonograph records used in radio broadcasts, scrapbooks, photographs,
articles and speeches by Voorhis, newspaper clippings, and other artifacts.
