Nomland was born on October 28, 1923 in Pasadena, California; attended Pasadena Junior College, Whittier College, and University of Southern California, where he received his MLIS in 1952; AB, MA, Ph.D in Latin American Literature, 1944-50, UCLA; served as architecture-fine arts librarian at University of Southern California, 1952-54; became librarian and associate professor at Los Angeles City College in 1954, serving as president of the academic senate of the college, 1965-66; became a bookseller; wrote Teatro Mexicano Contemporáneo: 1900-1950 (1967).
