Description
This collection contains research files relating to Gerald T. White's work on the history of oil in California, including his book Standard Oil of California, Formative Years in the Far West (1962). The collection also includes manuscripts and correspondence relating to his research.
Background
Gerald T. White was an historian, author, and professor of history at the University of California, Irvine (UCI) from 1968 to 1980. White was chairman of the History Department at UCI from 1969 to 1971 and Professor Emeritus from 1980 to 1989. His works include histories of the oil industry in California. White died in 1989.
