Table of contents What's This?
Books, catalogs, posters, and ephemera documenting the history of East German art. The largest segments of the collection are KUNSTLERKATALOGE (411 titles), catalogs of exhibits held in East Berlin (174 titles), and catalogs of exhibits held elsewhere in the GDR (285 titles). The remainder of the collection is divided into thematic areas: Kunstgewerbe, Buchwesen und Gebrauchsgrafik, Plakatliterature, Foto un Film, Kunsttheorie und Kunst politik, Architektur, Plastik und Bildhauer, and Allgemeines, each with between 27 and 98 titles.
The collection was put together by Jurgen Holstein, a Berlin bookseller. He included different internal views of East German art including the central establishment and allied artists, socialist aesthetics, collections devoted to approved artists, unusual topics (postcards, science fiction), material culture, and artists active during the 1980s.
