Generally their only connection to each other is the subject matter, which relates to slavery and race relations in the United States in the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries. The documents come from California, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maryland, Massachusetts, Mississippi, Missouri, New York, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia, and Washington, D.C.
