Description
This collection is comprised of records retained by the Western Consortium for Public Health as a part of their participation
in the California Tobacco Control Resource Partnership (CTCRP). This collection provides extensive documentation of the expenditure
of Prop. 99 funds. It includes information by and about a number of agencies throughout the state including publicity materials,
ephemera, grant information, reports, and more. The largest series, Grants, documents the actual grants funded by the proposition,
while other materials provide insight into the granting process and document some of the resulting products.
Background
The Western Consortium for Public Health was created in 1975 by a resolution of the California State Assembly as an independent,
nonprofit organization. Emerging from the continuing education programs offered by several schools of public health, WCPH
is governed by a board of directors composed of deans and faculty from the University of California, Berkeley and University
of California, Los Angeles. Its purpose is to support research, training, and community service activities of independent
principal investigators and to oversee public health related research and demonstration projects.
