Description
The Lawrence family lived in Sacramento, California, where Carl Lawrence was the owner of Lawrence Construction Company, a prominent building company in the Sacramento area during the 1950s and 1960s, and president of the Greater Sacramento Chamber of Commerce. His wife Marjorie was active in a number of local clubs and associations, many of which supported the arts in the Sacramento area, and his daughters, Linda and Nancy attended C.K. McClatchy High School. The nancy Lawrence family papers are composed of a variety of materials dating from 1841 to 2010 that were collected over the years by members of the Lawrence family and are comprised primarily of ephemera documenting the activities of Sacramento clubs and associations.
Background
Carl Kingsley Lawrence was born on February 6, 1901, in York in the province of Ontario, Canada. He later became a naturalized citizen of the United States. Both of his parents were also born in Ontario. His father, Charles Henry Lawrencce, worked at various times in his life as a minister, a laborer in a lumber yard, and a contractor. His mother was Matilda (Hutchinson) Lawrence. Carl Lawrence had one younger sister, Bernice Isabel (Mitchell) Lawrence.
