Scope and content:

This small collection contains Jewish music dating from the 1920s to the 2000s collected by cantor Aviva Rosenbloom. Materials consist of published sheet music originals and 18 photocopied pieces with lyrics often in Yiddish or Hebrew (1920s-1980s), some Jewish music catalogs from the late 1980s, and Bar/Bat Mitzah booklets from the 1990s-2000s. A variety of composers and arrangers are represented by the sheet music including Abraham Ellstein, Lipa Feingold, Solomon Golub, Pinchos Jassinowsky, Henry Lefkowitch, and Solomon Secunda. There is also a Park Avenue Synagogue Musical T'Fillah Uk'Dushah booklet (2003). Box 2 contains two copies of sets of the first installment of music for Shabbat Yachad commissioned by the Cantors Assembly (2000).

Biographical / historical:

Aviva Rosenbloom was cantor of the Temple Israel of Hollywood, California, from 1975 until becoming cantor emerita in 2008.
