Abstract: The collection consists of drafts of
Iskandar al-Magribi and the Memoirs of Cherif Soliman,
correspondence related to research and publication, and administrative records. It includes
a Spanish translation of
El Rosal de Las Rosas de Purpura and a
photocopy of the French translation from the Arabic of
Le Divan
d'Amour du Cherif Soliman.

Biographical Information:
Raymund F. Wood was born in London, England on November 9, 1911 and came to live in the
United States as a child. After high school, he studied at St. Mary's University, receiving
a degree in Classics in 1931, and a Master's degree in Philosophy from Gonzaga University in
1939. Wood taught English at the University of Santa Clara from 1939-1941, then briefly
worked as a teaching assistant at the University of California, Los Angeles, until enlisting
in the US Army in 1942. Following the end of WWII, he completed a Library Science degree at
the University of Southern California and then accepted a position as a librarian at Fresno
State College, where he worked from 1950-1966. In 1966, Wood relocated to Los Angeles to
accept a position as Associate Dean and Professor of Library Science at UCLA. Wood retired
from UCLA in 1978. Wood's published work focuses on the humanities and social sciences, with
a concentration in California history. He also published a number of articles in journals of
professional librarianship. Raymund F. Wood passed away on April 3, 1998, in Encino,
California.

The

consists of correspondences related to research and
publication, and administrative records. It includes a Spanish translation of
