    Abstract: The College of Health and Human Development Collection consists of the records of the college and its previous iterations throughout CSUN's history. Records include annual reports, program brochures, event fliers, course information, commencement programs, directories, and information on departments and centers.

    Historical Note:

    The College of Health and Human Development first began as the School of Communication and Professional Studies (CAPS), which was established in 1973, shortly after San Fernando Valley State College became California State University, Northridge. CAPS department included Communicative Disorders, Health Science, Home Economics, Journalism, Physical Education, Radio-Television-Film, Recreation and Leisure Studies, Speech Communication, and Child Development. The school was renamed the School of Communication, Health and Human Services in the early 1990s. In 1996, the school was reorganized and renamed the College of Health and Human Development, consisting of six departments: Child Development, Communicative Disorders, Family Environmental Sciences, Health Science, Kinesiology, and Leisure Studies and Recreation. The departments of Journalism, Speech Communication and Radio-TV-Film were moved to the new College of Arts, Media, and Communication.

    Scope and Contents

    The College of Health and Human Development Collection consists of the records of the college and its previous iterations throughout CSUN's history. Records include annual reports, program brochures, event fliers, course information, commencement programs, directories, and information on departments, the Nursing Department is particularly well represented. Materials have been separated into nine series: General Administrative Files (1982-2004), Child and Adolescent Department, Health Sciences Department (1976-1983), Home Economics Department (1978-1990), Leisure Studies Department (1980-2001), Nursing Department (1969-2016), Physical Education Department (1961-1990), Communication Disorders Department , and Kinesiology Department (1986-1999).
    Series I, General Administrative Files, consists of materials relating to College-wide business and events.
    Series II, Child and Adolescent Development Department, contains material produced by and for the faculty, staff, and students  of the Department of Child and Adolescent Development.
    Series III, Health Sciences Department, contains material produced by and for the faculty, staff, and students of the Department of Health Sciences.
    Series IV, Home Economics Department, contains material produced by and for the faculty, staff, and students of the Department of Home Economics.
    Series V, Leisure Studies Department, contains material produced by and for the faculty, staff, and students of the Department of Leisure Studies.
    Series VI, Nursing Department, contains material produced for use by the faculty, staff, and students of the Department of Nursing and has been further divided into four subseries. Administrative Files (1969-2016) consists of materials relating to department-wide business and events including nursing department proposals, minutes, and correspondence. Registered Nurse to Bachelor of Science in Nursing (1982-2015) consists of materials such as meeting minutes, photographs, and student handbooks. Accelerated Bachelor of Science in Nursing (1993-2013) consists of materials associated with the department's Accelerated BSN (Bachelor of Science, Nursing) program, including program plans and history. Student Organizations (1995-2013) consists of materials primarily relating to the CSUN Honor Society of Nursing (HSN) and Sigma Theta Tau International (STTI) Honor Society of Nursing, including secretary and treasurer notebooks and scrapbooks of CSUN HSN as well as correspondence and guidelines from STTI.
    Series VII, Physical Education Department, contains material produced by and for the faculty, staff, and students of the Department of Physical Education.
    Series VIII, Communication Disorders Department, contains material produced by and for the faculty, staff, and students of the Department of Communication Disorders.
    Series IX, Kinesiology Department, contains material produced by and for the faculty, staff, and students of the Department of Kinesiology.
