    Abstract: Jane Ellen Warner (1956-2010) was a lesbian law enforcement officer and newspaper columnist. From 1993 to 2009, Warner served as San Francisco Patrol Special Police Officer in the Castro, Noe Valley, and Mission neighborhoods in San Francisco. Materials include DVD-Rs documenting Halloween on Castro Street in 2008, Warner’s wedding to Dawn Robinson Warner, and Jane Warner’s memorial; documents related to Warner’s memorial; numerous award certificates from elected officials and government agencies; clippings of Warner’s columns in the Bay Area Reporter; Warner’s uniform; T-shirts from the Castro Street Fair; display cases featuring Warner’s badges and a flag; champagne flutes commemorating Warner’s wedding anniversary; and several collars, tags, and mementos from pets dogs.

    Biography/Administrative History

    Jane Ellen Warner (1956-2010) was a lesbian law enforcement officer and newspaper columnist. From 1993 to 2009, Warner served as San Francisco Patrol Special Police Officer in the Castro, Noe Valley, and Mission neighborhoods in San Francisco. She also wrote for the Bay Area Reporter’s “Crime and Punishment” column between 1999 and 2010. In November 2010, Jane Warner Plaza was dedicated in San Francisco’s Castro neighborhood.

    Scope and Content of Collection

    Materials include DVD-Rs documenting Halloween on Castro Street in 2008, Warner’s wedding to Dawn Robinson Warner, and Jane Warner’s memorial; documents related to Warner’s memorial; numerous award certificates from elected officials and government agencies; clippings of Warner’s columns in the Bay Area Reporter; Warner’s uniform; T-shirts from the Castro Street Fair; display cases featuring Warner’s badges and a flag; champagne flutes commemorating Warner’s wedding anniversary; and several collars, tags, and mementos from pets dogs.
