Background
In the late 1950s and early 1960s, the University of California, San Francisco established a Pastoral Clinical Educational
Program. With the help of the guidance of thefirst Chaplain at UCSF Medical Center, Reverend Elmer Laursen, S.T.M., the program
developed to offer pastoral services to patient care and provide an educational program for students who wanted to work in
pastoral clinical care.The correspondence tracesdiscussions around the implementation and continuation of the program and
