Scope and content:

The Addison Pickerill Paper are comprised of two scrapbooks of clippings of Pickerill's writings, his preacher's diary, several handwritten sermons, a photograph, and his obituary.

Biographical / historical:

Addison Pickerill was born in Brown County, Ohio January 8, 1838, but spent the majority of his life in Colorado, Kansas, and Missouri. He was a successful preacher in the Churches of Christ for many decades. He began preaching in 1864 at Mount Olive, Ohio. He assisted in organizing the first Church of Christ in Pueblo, Colorado.

Pickerill was married three times, to Sarah Erskine, Edith T. Edwards, and Elizabeth J. Williams. In total he had 6 childen.

Addision Pickerill died June 11, 1919 in Marion, Indiana at the age of 81.

Acquisition information:
The collection was donated to Pepperdine Special Collections and University Archives by Joan Loughridge, great-granddaughter of Addision Pickerill, in February 2021.
