    Abstract: Jesse Hollis was a set designer for more than eighty productions, mostly for Bay Area theaters during his thirteen year career during the 1970s and 80s. After receiving his master’s degree in scenic design from Southern Illinois University, he became design assistant at the Oregon Shakespeare Festival in Ashland. In 1975, he moved to San Francisco and slowly found employment as a free-lance designer. Mr. Hollis designed sets for plays (including a number of premiers), musicals, operas, and ballets in both large and small theaters. This collection includes sketches and plans for mor that 60 productions, as well as 3 set models, and various photographs for companies such as the American Conservatory Theatre, Oregon Shakespeare Festival, Berkeley Repertory Theatre, Marin Theatre Company, Lamplighters and Magic Theatre, Sacramento Theatre Company, Fortworth Opera and San Fancisco Ballet.

    Biography/Administrative History

    During his thirteen year career, Jesse Hollis designed sets for more than eighty productions, mostly for Bay Area theaters. After receiving his master’s degree in scenic design from Southern Illinois University, he became design assistant at the Oregon Shakespeare Festival in Ashland, a position he held for two years. In 1975, he moved to San Francisco and slowly found employment as a free-lance designer. Mr. Hollis designed sets for plays (including a number of premiers), musicals, operas, and ballets in both large and small theaters. Among the companies he designed for are the American Conservatory Theatre, Oregon Shakespeare Festival, Berkeley Repertory Theatre, Marin Theatre Company, The Lamplighters, Magic Theatre, and the Berkeley (now California) Shakespeare Festival.

    This collection includes sketches and plans for more than 60 productions from Jesse Hollis from companies such as the American Conservatory Theatre, Oregon Shakespeare Festival, Berkeley Repertory Theatre, Marin Theatre Company, Lamplighters and Magic Theatre, Sacramento Theatre Company, Fortworth Opera and San Fancisco Ballet, as well as 3 set models and a few photographs.
