E. Perlman,
The Myth of Marginality: Urban Poverty and Politics in Rio de Janeiro (Berkeley, 1976). Includes several hundred questionnaire responses of favela dwellers in Rio de Janeiro in 1969.
Incremental materials include Perlman's 2008 follow up interviews with favela community members that were published her in
Favela: Four Decades of Living on the Edge in Rio de Janeiro (Oxford University Press, 2010).
